Pythagoras taught from behind a curtain!
Pythagoras was a famous Greek philosopher and Mathematician who became known as ‘the father of numbers’ and some of whose rules are still in use today. He was born in Samos in the 6th century BC.
When he gave public lectures, he stood behind a curtain and only a few of his disciples were allowed inside the curtain. These were his ‘esoteric’ disciples, or 'those within'.
The others had to stay outside and listen through the curtain. These were the ‘exoteric’ disciples, or 'those outside. '
Can you imagine teachers hiding behind a curtain nowadays?
